Linie Aquavit is a traditional Norwegian potato-based caraway spirit. Differing from the Danish examples, those from Norway must be matured in old sherry casks. with added aniseed, this is rich and complex.

This is the Reposado expression from Tequila El Rayo, which is distilled in 105 year old copper stills and matured for 7 months in casks that previously held whiskey before being bottled. Bumbu Rum is based on a recipe dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries, used by pirates and merchants as a better-tasting alternative to the grog the Royal Navy served its men.
This modern interpretation takes sugarcane from eight Caribbean countries before distilling at the West Indies Rum Distillery in Barbados. Mastiha is a fascinating liqueur created in Greece using the resin of the rare mastiha tree grown on the Greek island of Chios. It's not often seen, but when you do, it's always worth a look. This particular expression is Kleos Mastiha, produced by master distiller Maroussa Tsaxaki using the mastiha tears (the hardened resin) and mastiha essential oils. The name comes from a Greek word meaning “fame or glory attained through good deeds and hard work” - which is clearly an admirable thing to aspire to!

The citrus flavours are the most prominent from beginning to end and give Angostura 1919 a refreshing twist.

Olmeca Altos Reposado spends a little longer being aged than other Olmeca tequilas, with 18 months in 200 litre white American ex-bourbon casks. It retains a super sweet and fresh flavour with its aroma packed full of bright fruitiness, notes of strawberry and cherry. The woody smokiness from the casks is apparent and is brought out even further when you take a sip. Slightly sweet honey comes through alongside the smokiness and the aftertaste is long, powerful and memorable.
La Hachichera is a bewitching rum which draws you in with its intense and spicy aroma. Taking its name from the Spanish word for enchantress a dried fruit and spicy aroma is paired with subtle vanilla, cacao and menthol. The bitterness blends beautifully into the sweet to offer a balance worthy of much appreciation.
Trois Rivieres hides a lot of flavour in its crystal clear body. Punchy and awash with tangy notes, it is still smooth and is a great alternative choice for your classic Mojito or Daiquiri. Fresh peaches, plums and pears come through in the nose and its high ABV means once you sip you get the full depth of flavour in a single sucker punch. Despite its punchiness there is elegance to this rum and citrus and grassy notes come through to support the strength.

An untamed young single malt from Ardbeg, Wee Beastie has spent five years in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks before being unleashed. Fresh, herbal aromas of pear, cracked black pepper, pine needles, vanilla and honey-glazed ham mingle on the nose with aniseed, green apple, leather and coffee. The palate offers notes of dark chocolate, hot tar, smoked bacon, aniseed and eucalyptus that liner in the finish.

Jose Cuervo Reposado 1800 is a further edition to the 1800 series of tequilas from Jose Cuervo. Rested for just six months in American and French oak casks, this tequila is a bittersweet, light offering which is exceptionally easy to drink. Light coconut and vanilla flavours come through in the nose with spicy pepper and cinnamon coming through too. The taste begins sweetly, with butterscotch taking centre stage but then leading into familiar notes of vanilla and charred vegetables.
A 12 year old dark rum from Ron Abuelo of Panama. They age their rum in whiskey barrels, which adds a distinct vanilla sweetness. This 12 year old was launched in 2009, and is elegant, slightly smoky and rich. It was awarded a Gold at the 2009 Ministry of Rum Tasting Competition.

Brugal 1888 was launched in 1988 to celebrate the company’s centenary and benefits from aging in ex-whisky barrels for 14 to 16 years. A portion of the blend is also aged in sherry butts and the aroma evidences this sweet sherry scent. The flavour is full-bodied and the sherry flavour remains with vanilla, toffee and vibrant liquorice notes also come through. Dry oak tannins are underlying throughout and add depth to the character of this rum.

Released in the UK in 2014, the Mount Gay Black Barrel rum is made from single column and double pot distilled rum, though using a higher proportion of double pot distillates than their other expressions. It is also finished in heavily charred bourbon barrels before being bottled.
The first line extension to the Maker's Mark range since the '50s, Maker's 46 is essentially the standard expression with added spice. This was not intended to compete with the core expression, instead it's a cousin to it, something different for those that like spicy bourbon. They add this extra dimension by inserting seared French oak staves into the barrels (with the stave profile "number 46" - thus the name). It's utterly stunning. Yet it is 47% abv . Confusing.

Glencadam single malt Scotch Whisky here that was treated to a finish in Merlot wine casks. Master distiller Robert Fleming married several select single malts aged in bourbon American oak casks from Glencadam's historic dunnage warehouses and then finished them in Merlot wine barrels sourced from Bordeaux, France. It was bottled at 46% ABV, natural colour and un-chill-filtered.
A lovely drop here from Glencadam Distillery, made by treating its Highland single malt Scotch whisky to a finish in Pinot Noir Wine casks. The whisky was initially aged in bourbon barrels before it was given a second maturation in barrels sourced from the Burgundy region of France.
Here we have a sherried single malt whisky from Glencadam distillery. It was first matured in Bourbon barrels before being transferred to quality Pedro Ximénez casks. In the Highland distillery's dunnage warehouses, this rich and sweet PX sherry has added layers of dried fruit and baking spice to malt. It was bottled without chill-filtration or any additional colouring.

The folks behind the marvellous Ancho Reyes Chile Liqueur have only gone and create a green chile variant! A dram with honey, malty notes and balanced soft oak notes, Jack Daniel's shows some of the intriguing whiskeys they make in their renowned distillery.
They make all their barrels fully in house to be contructed and toasted to their specifications, all their whiskey is aged in Lynchburg Tennessee, and the yeast in the fermentation process is cultivated from their first post prohibition yeast, all the way back in 1938. Great to find out that one of the most well known drinks in the world is made in a geeky way, similar to what would be considered 'craft' (scaled up quite a bit).

Jack Daniel's bottled in bond is 80% corn, 12% Rye, and 8% barley. Fermented using their own house yeast, and aged in their own barrels, coopered in house to their specifications.

A high-wheat content release from Woodford Reserve. This one is made with 52% wheat, 20% malted barley, 20% corn and 8% rye. Another fresh, tasty release from the popular distillery.
This is the first Texan whiskey, as well as being the first whiskey to be distilled from blue corn! When we first tried this we thought it was wonderful, though very "different". These days it's become a firm favourite, along with the rest of the craft distillery's fantastic releases.
