Jose Cuervo 1800 Silver Tequila is a premium silver tequila that slightly plays against the rules of tradition by resting, rather than aging, in an American oak barrel for up to 15 days after distillation, just long enough to take on a dash of colour and a slightly oaky body of flavour. So how does the pear get into the bottle? A picture on the side of the box provides the answer!
A bottle of Calvados containing a 'captive apple'. Each carafe is suspended from the branches of apple trees in the springtime before the first apples appear. The apple then grows inside the carafe. When the fruit becomes ripe, the carafe is removed from the tree with the apple captive inside. The bottles are then filled with young Calvados at 70% which allows the apples to settle down and stabilise before they are refilled with Calvados. The apples inside the bottles then gently macerates inside the Calvados filled bottles. The visually-attractive bottles make excellent gifts. Best consumed as a digestif and enjoyed at room temperature.
Rum is one of the most diverse spirits on the planet. Each country that makes it has its own identity, traditions, styles, production methods, cultural influences and ways of drinking it. From spice and flavoured expressions to rums aged for long periods in oak, not to mention those that are bottle fresh straight from the still, this is a spirit worth discovering.
MEGA YUM! Sipsmith boys came up trumps with this one. Super silky mouthfeel with notes of lemon barley water and crushed up breakfast cereal from your schooldays. This is followed by a cramy vanilla moment before more lemon and eventually a brief hard boiled barley sugar with orange rind. Finish is meag silky and leaves you with a lovely lemon barley note and a desire for more of the same.
The one that started it all! Pepper and peppermint notes start up upon entry. These move aside as a clean sweetness takes over and then finishes with white pepper and a faint yet recognizable liquorice ending. Classic little number that we've all done time with.
