Brandy
Brandy gets its name from the Dutch word brandewijn meaning burned wine and is liquor usually distilled from wine although other fermented fruit juices can be used. The 3 main types of brandy are grape brandy made from fermented grapes, fruit brandies often made using fruits including pear, apricot and blackberry and pomace brandies made from the skins, stems and seeds of grapes that are being distilled for wine. Brandy varies in flavour from slightly dry through to sweet and is enjoyed neat and in various cocktails.
